I was sort of surprised at this decision but I guess it is good for MMO's. I wonder if this decision would also apply to sites like fubar.com -- an arguable MMO.

This software let's users leave their computers and come back to more powerful character with gold -- basically, it played the game itself.

This is one of those companies that was heading in one direction and then realized they couldn't make money so they headed into a new direction.

Quote: "Every month Meetup.com CEO Scott Heiferman tells the 400 or so geeks who reliably head out to the NY Tech Meetup they can feel free to boo bad presentations off the stage. But no one ever does, not even the obvious snoozers (and there were one or two).

But here's one tech presentation/comedy routine that had everyone on their toes: iminlikewithyou's Charles Forman invited programmers to join a new casual game network. The plan is to provide would-be Dinglepop designers a..."

Quote: "Electronic Arts (ERTS) has taken a beating -- on the Internet -- for installing DRM locks on its long-awaited Will Wright game Spore. But has the noise from angry gaming nerds translated into lost sales? The game sells well on Amazon, and at the EA CEO John Riccitiello told gaming blog Gamasutra his company has a hit.

I personally hate DRM.... But I don't like locks on my door, and I don't like to use keys in my car... I'd like..."

Turns out there was also an earnout agreement, where the pair gets a bonus if Rock Band did well...."

hm... I wonder if the world will follow this suit and stop buying less games? Sales in Japan for consoles and games are down 21% for the third quarter -- that is a huge shift.

Quote: "We had to read this twice to make sure we got it right: Sales of console and portable videogames in Japan are down 21% in the third quarter. The numbers are so bad Japan is dragging the global gaming industry down with it: Global game sales from July to September grew at a paltry 1%, despite fair growth in the United States (8%) and Britain (15%).

What's going on? Gaming companies simply haven't come out with the kind of must-have titles..."

This is some serious coin -- if you don't turn off your PS3, it is about $125/yr in electricity. I guess around $12/mo!

Quote: "Americans blow $1.1 billion dollars a year in wasted electricity-- up to $125 per household -- just by not turning off their PS3s and Xboxs when they're done playing. That's what the environmental do-gooders at the Natural Resources Defense Council (SAI's upstairs neighbors) discover in their new report on green gaming.

The NRDC's advice: Console-makers should incorporate a "sleep" feature into their consoles where after three hours of inactivity, games are auto-saved and the unit powers down. The PS3 has something..."

Quote: "Nintendo (NTDOY) should have been ready for this, but it's still a high-quality problem: Company executives say there won't be enough copies of the top-selling exercise game "index.php?list=search&type=a&sort=b&filter=n&string=Wii" Wii/a+Fit" >Wiia> Fit" to go around for the holiday season.

Forbes: Nintendo has been steadily ramping up production of

It looks like midway is going to go bankrupt. Sumner Redstone sold his 87% stake in the company for just $150,000 to a private equity investor. The price was so low because he owed the investor some other things. However, the sale forces a lot of covenants in play. Midway has 50 days to come up with $150 Million.

Now that is...

Quote: "Only 50 days to live for Midway Games (MWY)?

Earlier this week, Sumner Redstone sold his 87% stake in the game publisher to private investor Mark Thomas for a paltry sum of about $100,000. But there's a kicker: The sale triggered a provision allowing Midway's creditors to demand immediate repayment of debt, about $150 million. Midway says it expects all its bondholders to demand payment, and it also says it won't be able to meet the request.

It seems inconceivable that the..."
